Short Shakes “The Importance of Being Earnest”
Rehearsals: February 23-April 8, 2014 (Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings)
Performs: April 5, 7, 8, 2014
Oscar Wilde’s farcical comedy centers around the dapper Jack Worthing and his sidekick Algernon. They have fallen in love with two ladies who both have their hearts set on marrying a man named Earnest. This leads to an elaborate deception, and ultimately an outlandish surprise!
Short Shakes at Seattle Shakespeare Company is more than just putting on a play, it is an experience that fosters compassion, creates better listeners, promotes critical thinking, and develops courage. And it’s a whole lot of fun with new friends. Who knew a play could do all that?
You will audition, rehearse, and perform your own classic play. Seattle theatre professionals lead a seven-week process that culminates in three performances. All the while, you’ll make friends, learn about Shakespeare’s language, discover basic acting concepts and techniques, hone your comedy skills, and step into roles that may stretch you, but in a good way.
